Keyboard Shortcuts
You can send, switch tabs and panes, save, open settings, and more from the keyboard. Keys work per place, based on where the focus is, and you can change them on the "Shortcuts" tab in Settings. Tab stops once per group and the arrow keys move inside a group, so you can do the main tasks without a mouse.
Keys That Work Per Place
The same key can do different things depending on where the focus is. For example, ⌘] moves to the next of the Query, Auth, Headers, and Hooks tabs in the request pane, and to the next response tab in the response pane.
- The places are "Everywhere", the side panel (collections and schema), the request, the builder inside the request, the response, and dialogs. A key assigned in an inner place takes priority over the same key in an outer place (Everywhere).
- When nothing has focus (for example, right after you click a button), the keys of the place you clicked last apply.
- While a dialog (Settings, a confirmation, and so on) is open, the Everywhere keys do not work (except
⌘Q). Inside a dialog, Esc closes it and Tab moves within it.
- While a project or environment list, a menu, or a suggestion list is open, the list takes the arrow keys,
Enter, Esc, and similar keys. Keys with ⌘ (Ctrl on Windows / Linux) still work as shortcuts, so you can press ⌘↩ to send even while a suggestion list is open.
- Inside a text field, text editing keys (such as
⌘⌫, and on macOS the Control editing keys such as ⌃A ⌃E ⌃K) come first. Even if you assign one of these keys to a shortcut, it still edits text inside a text field (the only exception is "Next suggestion" / "Previous suggestion": in the schema search box, moving between candidates comes first). In the builder's value fields and similar, ⌃H ⌃J ⌃K ⌃L do not move rows and are left to the field. Only the schema search box takes ⌃J ⌃K first, to move between candidates (when there are neither candidates nor Query rows, they are left to text editing).
- Shortcuts do not work while you are composing text with an input method (for example, Japanese).
Default Keys
On Windows / Linux, use Ctrl instead of ⌘. Moving between panes, moving between tabs, and moving through schema candidates and builder rows use ⌃ (Control) on macOS too, not ⌘. History, the URL field, and AI assist use different keys only on Windows / Linux, because Ctrl+H, Ctrl+J, and Ctrl+L are taken by the builder moves. Keys marked "(fixed)" cannot be changed.

Tab |
- Close a tab with
⌘W (Ctrl+W on Windows / Linux). Tab does not stop on the "×" of the top bar tabs.
⌘Q quits only when pressed twice within one second (so a mistaken press does not throw away your work).
- Go to AI assist (
⌘J) works only on Pro.
- Delete (
⌘⌫) works on collection folders and saved queries, and asks you to confirm. Favorite folders cannot be deleted with the key (use the × in the row). The top row of the builder (the query itself) cannot be removed with the key either.
- Holding a key down does not repeat a shortcut.
Moving with Tab and the Arrow Keys
Tab (Shift+Tab to go back) stops once per group below. Inside a group, use the arrow keys.
| Group |
How to move inside |
| Top bar tabs |
← → move the focus, Enter or Space selects |
| Rail (collections, history, schema) |
↑ ↓ move, Enter or Space presses |
| Side panel lists (collections, favorites, projects, environments, history, schema) |
↑ ↓ move between rows, ← → move between the buttons in a row (⋯, ☆, ×; in the schema, +, name, type) |
| Request tabs (Query, Auth, Headers, Hooks) |
← → select another tab |
| Builder tree |
↑ ↓ (⌃J ⌃K) move between rows, ← → move between the buttons in a row (⋯, + child, ×). ⌃H goes to the parent row and ⌃L to the first child row |
| Response tabs |
← → select another visible tab. Tabs that do not fit are in "»" (the next Tab stop) |
Home and End move to the first and last item of a group.
- The row
⋯ menu (⇧F10) and the favorite destination list (⌘D) put the focus on the first item when they open. Use ↑ ↓ to choose, Enter to confirm, and Esc to close. After they close, the focus returns to the button that opened them. Tab (Shift+Tab) closes them and moves on to the next (previous) item. Holding Enter on the opening button does not pick an item right after it opens.
- When you delete a row or close a tab, the focus moves to the next row (or the parent row) or to the newly selected tab (also when you delete a collection row from the confirmation, and when you use "Close Tab" from the menu). If the focus was in the side panel when you close it with
⌘B, it moves to the request.
- In the schema search box, press
↓ (⌃J) to move to the candidates (queries whose names match; ⌃K goes to the last one). When the search box is empty and no candidates are shown, ⌃J moves to the first field row of Query in the type list (its "+" button) and ⌃K to the last row, so after Ctrl+1 you can pick with ⌃J ⌃K right away. Move up and down the rows with ⌃J ⌃K (or ↑ ↓), and press Enter or ⌘I to add that query. Press ⌃K on the first Query row to return to the search box. The row selected with the keys is shown with a tinted background, a bar on its left, and a ring around "+". Inside the candidates, use ↑ ↓ (⌃K ⌃J) Home End to move and Enter to add one (the same as pressing "+"). Press ↑ (⌃K) on the first candidate, or Esc, to go back to the search box. In the search box, ⌘I adds the selected candidate (the first one if you have not selected any). On a row with "+" in the type list, it adds that row. While searching, Tab from the candidates moves to the type list.
- When you finish renaming a row (
F2 or "Rename" in the ⋯ menu) with Enter, or cancel it with Esc, the focus returns to that row, so you can keep moving with ↑ ↓.
- This works without changing the macOS "Keyboard navigation" setting.
Tab also stops on text fields (the URL, schema search, the field to add, and so on).
Changing Keys
Open Settings (⌘,) and choose the "Shortcuts" tab on the left. ⌘/ opens this tab directly.
- Click a group heading to open it (on a heading,
↑ ↓ move between headings and Enter or Space opens or closes it). Type an action name or a key (⌘E or Ctrl+E) in the search field to open only the groups that match. "Expand all" and "Collapse all" are also available.
- Click the key field of the action you want to change, then press the new key together with
⌘ or ⌃ (Ctrl on Windows / Linux). F1–F12 can be used alone. Nothing is decided while you hold only modifier keys.
- Press
Esc to cancel (the key stays as it was).
- A changed row shows a "Changed" mark and ↺ (reset to default). × sets it to "None" (no key). "Reset all to defaults" puts everything back.
- Depending on the key you press, a message appears under that row.
- Red: keys used by the OS or by the Edit menu (copy, paste, and so on), fixed keys, and keys without
⌘ or ⌃ cannot be assigned.
- Yellow: another action in the same place already uses the key. "Swap" gives that action your previous key. "Cancel" changes nothing.
- Blue: the key is assigned, with a note (it takes priority over a key in an outer place, text editing comes first inside text fields, and so on).
- If you record a key that another action in the same place already uses, a yellow message appears. On Free, the key of the Pro feature (Go to AI assist,
⌘J) also counts as used, and the message says it is a Pro feature.
- If ↺ (Reset to default) would give an action the same key as another action in the same place, a yellow message appears before it resets. If you choose "Reset to default", the other action is set to None.
- When your changed keys are loaded, a key that clashes with a default key in the same place is dropped and the action goes back to its default (for example, after an update changes a default). Swapped keys are kept. If two actions in the same place still end up with the same key, the later one does not work and a message appears under that row.
- Changed keys are saved on this computer. They are not included in project exports.
- Keys marked "(fixed)" (
⌘W, ⌘Q, ⌘,, F2, ⌥↑↓, and Esc and Tab in dialogs) cannot be changed. The candidate and builder row moves (⌃J ⌃K ⌃H ⌃L) can be changed.
